Spreading the true Dharma of the Buddha at Hyonji

Temple in Chuncheon where it has settled down under

the kind favors of the Buddha.

 

부처님의 은혜로 자리 잡은 춘천 현지사에서 부

처님의 정법 펼쳐

 

 

 

   The Great Monk Jajae Manhyon searched for a site to establish Yongsan

Buddhism and spread the true Dharma ofthe Buddha.  He settled down at the

site of Hyonji Temple situated at the foot of Daesung Mountain in Chuncheon

in 2000.  He was looking for the best site to prepagate the true Dharma of the

Buddha on this land together withhis co-practitioner who was in Kasyapa at the

time of the assembly of the Spirit Mountain.

 

   영산불교를 설립하고 이 땅에 부처님의 정법을 펼칠

수 있는 터전을 찾기 위해 전국 방방곡곡을 찾아다닌

자재만현 큰스님은 지난 2000년 춘천의 대성산(大成

山) 산자락에 현지사의 터를 잡았다.  큰스님은 영산 당

시 가섭존자였던 현생의 도반과 함께 이 땅에 부처님의

정법을 펼치기 위해 가장 수승한 터를 찾은 것이다. 

 

   As a Bomyong Buddha who supervises all the Buddhas'Dharma, one of the

Five Tathagatas, he says that this place is a holyplace on earth because pure

energy erupts from the warth and an armful of light id being porued down upon

us from the Buddha's Realm.  We decided that this place was the holysite for us

to spread the true Dharma of the Buddha.

  

   "오여래 중 한 분이신 법보관장 보명불께서 친히 천

하의 정기가 용출하고 부처님 세계의 빛이 한 아름 정

도로 쏟아 내리는 성지 중의 성지임을 일러주셔서 이곳

을 부처님의 정법을 펼치기 위한 성지로 정했습니다."

 

   Standing at the most magnificent place where the thick forest of pine trees is

growing and the Bukhan River flows serenely in the front, Hyonji Temple is

located not far from the road where not only lay Buddhists, but also the practi-

tioners who try to seek the truth of the universe can easily drop in and take a

rest.

 

   뒤로는 소나무 숲이 우거지고 앞으로는 북한강이 유

유히 흐르는 수승한 곳에 위치한 현지사는 인연 닿는

제가 불자는 물론 우주의 진리를 찾고자 하는 수행자들

이 쉬이 들를 수 있을 만큼 도로에서 멀지 않은 곳에 자

리하고 있다.

 

   The Great Monk has built a provisional temple on the site of Hyonji Temple

in Chuncheon together with the lay Buddhists following the doctrines of the

Yongsan Buddhism.  The Main Hall has been dedicated to Sakyamuni Buddha

with Avalokiteshvara and Ksitigarbha Bodhisattvas as the left and right hand

attendants.  The images of Sakyamuni Buddha and the two Bodhisattvas in the

Main Hall in Hyonji Temple are not like those that we have seen in other

Korean temples.  The Buddha and the picture of the Bodhisattvas on the front

wall have glaring eyes and their hair is neatly shaved.

 

   부지 선정 후 큰스님은 영산불교의 교리를 따르는

대중들과 함께 춘천 현지사 부지에 가건물을 짓고 대웅

전에 석가모니부처님과 관음, 지장 두 보살님을 좌우

보처로 모셨다.  현지사 대웅전의 석가모니 부처님이나

두 보살님의 형상은 한국의 어느 사찰에서 보던 모습이

아니다.  현지사 부처님들이나 탱화의 보살들은 두 눈

을 부릅뜨고 머리를 깍은 모습니다.

 

  "The shaved Buddha images in our temple are the appearances of the

Complete Body of Bliss when the Buddha enters complete nirvana, and when

he returns to his Buddha Body (the Reward Body) in the Absolure Realm,

teaching and saving human beings with thirty-two bodily signs in Light

(Immeasurable Light.  They are the images of the Buddha and other Buddhas

abiding in the Absolute Realm that I have personally seen duning the samadhi

reaitation."

   In this part, the Great Monk emphasized the existence of Sakyamuni Buddha

again.

  

   "우리 절의 머리 깎은 부처님 상은, 부처님께서 반열

반에 드셔서 절대계의 자기 불신(보신)으로 돌아가 경

험세계를 들고 나시면서 중생을 교화하시는, 32상을 구

족하고 빛(무량광)으로 이루어진 원만보신불의 모습입

니다.  염불 삼매에 들어가 직접 확인한 절대계에 계

신 석가모니 부처님과 여러 부처님들의 모습입니다."

   이 부분에서 큰스님은 석가모니 부처님의 존재를 다

시 한 번 강조한다.

 

  "Sakyamuni Buddha is the very first Buddha and we can say that all the

Buddhas in the Threefold Great Thousand World Systems are the works of

Sakyamuni Buddha.  Sakyamuni Buddha has not gone exitinct in reality, but be

is even now teaching and saving Bodhisattvas at the Spint Mountain in India."

 

   "석가모니 부처님은 최초의 불로서 삼천대천세계의

모든 부처님은 석가모니 부처님의 작품이라 할 수 있습

니다.  석가모니 부처님은 실제로 멸도하지 않으셨고,

지금도 인도 영축산에서 보살들을 교화하고 계십니다."

 

   The Great Monk stressed again that, forthese reasons, (the Lotus Sutra) con

taining the 'Chapter on the Duration of the Life of the Tathagata' which reveals

the attainment of Buddhahood from the past and attracts the greatest attention

among all the Sutras of the Buddha.  Although he has lived for many decades, he

still has the appearance of being in his fifties.  on the hill above the Main Hall,

the construction of the Vairochana Hall is now progressing at its height.  The

Great Monk plans to placethe Pure Dharma Vairochana Buddha in the

Vairochana Hall which is expected to be complted in autumn in 2008.

  

   그런 이유 때문에 모든 부처님의경전 중에서 구원

실성을 밝히는 '여래수량품' 을 내포한 <<법화경>>이 가

장 주목받는 것이라고 큰스님은 강조한다.  큰 스님이

친견한 석가모니 부처님은 진묵겁의 생을 살았지만 여

전히 50대의 모습인 만큼 현지사 대웅전의 주불인 석

가 부처님도 중년의 모습이다.

 

   대웅전 위의 언덕에는 현재 대적광전 불사가 한창

진행되고 있다.  큰스님은 2008년 가을 무렵 완공 예정

인 대적광전에는 석가모니 부처님의 법신체인 청정법

신 비로자나불을 주불로 모실 계획이다.

 

   "The Pure Dharma Vairochana Buddha takes in the Pure Dharma Bodies of

all Buddhas as a whole.  The Pure Dharma Bodies of all Buddhas are absorbed

into the Pure Dharma Vairochana Buddha of Sakyamuni Buddha whenever

there is a big event.  Therefore, the light of the Pure Dharma Buddha has a high-

er light intensity than that of the Complete Body of Bliss, and his power is

countless and limitless because it shines over the Threefold Great Thousand

World Systems at all times.

 

   "청정법신 비로자나불은 모든 붓다들의 청정법신을

총괄적으로 흡수합니다.  모든 붓다님들의 청정법신불

은 큰 일이 있을 때마다 석가모니 부처님의 청정법신

비로자나불로 흡수됩니다.  그러므로 청정법신불의 빛

은 원만보신불보다 광도가 높으며 언제나 삼천대천세

계를 비추고 있어 그 힘은 무량무변합니다."

 

   By virtue of the great power of the Pure Dharma Vairochana Buddha, the

Great Monk wishes to pray for the welfare and peace of the world of the beings

in the Saha worldthrough construction of the Vairochana Hall.  The place where

Hyonji Temple is situated is north of the 38th parallel line.  The Great Monk

plans to let Hyonji Temple act asthe temple for national salvation, praying for

the unification of South and North Korea and for the further development of the

Republic of Korea by dedicating the Vairochana Hall to the Vairochana

 

   청정법신 비로자나불의 위대한 힘을 빌어 큰스님은

대적광전 건립을 통해 사바세계 중생들의 안위와 세계

평화를 기원하고자 한다.  특히 현지사가 위치한 자리

가 38선 이북임을 감안, 큰스님은 대적광전에 청정법

신 비로자나불을 모시고 남북통일과 대한민국의 발전

을 기원하는 구국도량의 역할을 다 할 계획이다.

 

   The Three Buddha Hall id situated at the top of the hill above the Vairochana

Hall and id at the height of its construction now.  The Great Monk worships

Bomyong Buddha who id one of the Five Tathagatas as the main Buddha in the

Three Buddha Hall.

 

   지금 한찬 불사 중인 대적광전 위의 중턱에는 삼불보

전이 위치한다.  큰스님은 삼불보전에 5여래 중의 한 분

인 보명불을 주불로 모시고 좌우보처 두 붓다와 많은 부

처님들을 모시고 있다.

 

   "Bomyong Buddha attained Buddhahood after the very first Buddha

Sakyamuni Buddha.  In the palaces of the dragon kings the Sutras of the

Buddhas that contain the words of many Buddhas abiding in the Threefold

Great Thousand World Systems supervisescountless fragon kings in the

Dharma Realms of the ten directions."

 

   "보명불은 최초불인 석가모니불 이후 불과를 이루신

삼천대천세계에 계시는 수많은 부처님들의 말씀을 담

은 부처님 경전을 용궁에 보관하시고 시방법계의 무수

한 용왕들을 관장하고계십니다." 

 

   The Great Monk drew the eyes of the many Buddhas and Bodhisattvas

appearing on the picture hung on the wall of the Thrss Buddha Hall in samadhi.

Many lay Buddhists visiting Hyonji Temple pray for themselvesanf those who

have causalconnections with them to the Three Buddhas and Bodhisattvas in

the Three Buddha Hall.

 

   특히 삼불보전의 수많은 탱화들은 큰스님이 삼매에

들어 점안을 하여 다른 사찰에서는 볼 수 없는 보신부

처님의 모습이다.  현지사를 찾은 많은 제가 불자들은

인간사의 길흉화복을 주관하는 삼불보전의 세 부처님

과 모든 보살님들에게 각자의 소망과 인연을 기리는 기

도를 드리고 있다.
